CHANNING PHILLIPS
Rev. Channing Phillips, the first black Presidential candidate, signs a typed letter to a collector.
Typed letter signed: "Channing E. Phillips", 1p, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1970 November 12. To Jim Hier, In full: "Thank you for your kind letter of November 3. We regret, however, that we have no literature from our previous campaign but hope the material enclosed from our current campaign will be satisfactory." At the 1968 Democratic National Convention, the Rev. Channing E. Phillips became the first Black American to have his name placed in nomination for President at a major party national convention. Fine condition.
