Signature of the 19th century Congressman from North Carolina who served from 1883-1887. Extremely rare!
Signature: "R. T. Bennett/N.C.," in black ink, 7x2¾. Risden Tyler Bennett (1840-1913) was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives, serving North Carolina from 1883 to 1887. A law man from Wadesboro, he enlisted in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. Wounded three times, the colonel fought in the Battle of Gettysburg. He also served in the brigade of Stephen D. Ramseur during the 1864 Overland Campaign. After the war he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives and was a delegate to the 1875 state constitutional convention. When he retired he returned to Wadesboro where he lived the rest of his life. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
