The Nobel Prize winner in Economics (1997), inscribes his book Applications of Option-Pricing Theory: Twenty-Five Years Later
Book inscribed and signed: "For Nicole Minkle,/Robert C. Merton/October 17, 2005", 66p, 7x9. Applications of Option-Pricing Theory: Twenty-Five Years Later, by Robert C. Merton. Undated Harvard Business School authorized paperback reprint of a 1998 Nobel Foundation publication. Book includes a biography of Merton, his Nobel Prize lecture of December 9, 1997, and documents from the Nobel Prize banquet in Stockholm, Sweden and award presentation in Oslo, Norway. Includes a photo of Merton (b/w, 4½x6½). In the early 1970s, Merton published a paper on the mathematics of stock option markets which reached the same conclusions as another paper by Fischer Black and Myron Scholes. The resulting model became known as Black-Scholes, but it was Merton and Scholes who received the 1997 Nobel Prize in Economics after Black's death. Merton is a strong exponent of the view that corporations which include stock options in compensation packages should treat these options as expenses on their balance sheets. He is the son of renowned sociologist Robert K. Merton, who coined the term "self-fulfilling prophecy." Fine condition.
