In full: "Yours of the 30th ult has reached me, and I am pleased not only to hear from you, but to find your health so much improved. I am gratified in being able to oblige your friend and shall be glad to see you, and converse about the 'new departure' which I favor." Governor of Michigan (1852-1853), McClelland was Pierce's Secretary of the Interior from 1853-1857. Inlaid. Usual folds, 2 pinhead-size folds in blank areas, else fine.
