Panama's Ambassador to the United Kingdom signs a 7x10½ page in black felt tip.
Signature: "RA" in black felt tip, 1 page, 7x10½. Roberto Emilio "Tito" Arias (1918-1989) was a Panamanian international lawyer, diplomat and journalist. A graduate of St. John's College in Cambridge, he spent his early professional years as an editor for his family's newspaper. In 1955, he married English Ballerina Margot Fonteyn (1919-1991) and was appointed Panama's Ambassador to the United Kingdom. He later served in Panama's National Assembly. In 1959, Arias and his wife were involved in a plot to overthrow Panama's government; both left the country, but later returned after the charges were dropped. During his time in the National Assembly, a political associate shot Arias over an argument, and Arias spent 18 months in the hospital, was paralyzed from the neck down, and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. After Fonteyn retired from dancing, the two lived on a ranch outside of Panama City. Ink note (unknown hand) at bottom margin (not affecting signature). Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
