The artist signs a First Day Cover in a dog breed series he designed himself.
First Day Cover signed: "Roy Andersen", 6½x3¾. First Day Cover honoring the Black and Tan Coonhound and the American Foxhound, postmarked New York, New York, September 7, 1984, 20-cent stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Roy Andersen (b. 1930) was a successful magazine illustrator featured in Sports Illustrated and National Geographic, and on the cover of Time (with portraits of Albert Einstein). He is now recognized as one of America's premier painters of the American West, and of animals. His portraits of the West, and especially of the Crow, Cheyenne and Apache Peoples earned him the Artist of the Year award from the Friends of Western Art (2000), and commissions from the National Park Service. He designed two stamp series, one a block of four 2-breed American dog stamps (1984) commemorating the centennial of the American Kennel Club; and won the Stamp of the Year Award in 1985 for a companion series on American horses. Dream Spinner, featuring his art, was published in 1999. Fine condition.
