SIMON CAMERON
Clipped signature of Simon Cameron, affixed to an index card
Clipped signature "Simon Cameron". 2¾x¾ signature affixed to 3x1 and 5¼x3 cards. Typed caption on larger card: "Simon Cameron, Harrisburg, Pa." Cameron (1799-1889, born in Maytown, Pennsylvania) was Senator from Pennsylvania (Democrat, 1845-1849; Republican, 1857-1861, 1867-1877) and, during the American Civil War, Lincoln's Secretary of War (1861-1862). He was also a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 1860, which Lincoln won on the third ballot. Lightly toned, foxed and soiled. Signature is lightly smeared in places but legible. Bottom edge of signature is irregular. Otherwise in fine condition.
