ALS: "Henry W. Acland", 31/2p, 33/4x61/4, front and verso. Oxford, 1874 February 21. To Dr. John Russell Reynolds, London. In part: "...I suppose we must infer a very grave condition, tho' perhaps not a speedy terminal time. My poor friend...is gone off to the North of England. I will give him your message. I do not believe that he really contemplates marriage except it were for her sake. And she indeed has refused that, absolutely...." Tiny stain in blank portion of last page, horizontal fold touches signature, else fine condition. With original envelope, bearing two one-penny Victoria stamps, addressed by Acland. Lightly soiled, back flap torn from opening, else fine. DR. HENRY ACLAND, a fellow in the Royal College of Physicians in London since 1850, was Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford University from 1858. He was responsible for the building of the University Museum, which provided a centralized home for the University's scientific collections and teaching facilities devoted to the sciences. He also founded the Physiological Collection of Christ Church College. Two items.
