As Confederate President and Secretary of War, both signed this printed
document on vellum, commissioning privateers to wage war against the US on the
high seas. This copy was signed but never used. Printed early in the war, it
includes a handwritten correction of the location of the CSA capital, with
Montgomery struck out and Richmond written in.Special
Appointment of a Lieutenant of the 89th Regiment of Foot, a unit
which would later bear the name of the Queen's eldest daughter, Princess
Victoria. Also signed by Lord Panmure (later the Earl of Dalhousie) as Secretary
of State for War.

a 2nd lieutenant to the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Royal West Surrey
Regiment. Accompanied by five military documents regarding this officer's
commission in this regiment.
