VIOLET ASQUITH BONHAM CARTER - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 01/03/1912 - DOCUMENT 140343

VIOLET ASQUITH BONHAM CARTER
The daughter of British Prime Minister Herbert Asquith signed this handwritten letter in ink
Autograph Letter Signed: “Violet Asquith”. 7¾x6 (unfolded). Three pages of text. Dated January 3rd, 1912. Letterhead from the British Embassy. In Full: "Dear Mr. Barrett-/ Thank you so much for asking me to lunch on Saturday- I should have loved to come but I find Mrs. Bryce has made other arrangements for me. I shall look forward to seeing you here on Sunday. We might then arrange to go & see the Pan American Union". She signed and mailed this letter three years before her marriage to Sir Maurice Bonham Carter. Violet Asquith Bonham Carter (1887-1969) was the daughter of British Prime Minister Herbert Asquith. As she grew older she got into politics herself, becoming a major opponent of the practice of appeasement to avoid military conflict. In her early 20s, she was part of a tempestuous love triangle with Sir Winston Churchill and Clementine Hozier. Churchill ultimately married Clementine, while Violet and Winston remained friends for life. Actress Helena Bonham Carter is her granddaughter. Toned. Mailing crease down center. Otherwise, fine condition.
