Review", September 1980, Vol. 70, No. 4. Titled: "The Slowing Down of the
Engine of Growth", the speech Lewis gave on December 8, 1979, when he
accepted the 1979 Nobel Prize in Economics. Sir Arthur Lewis (1915-1990, who
was born in St. Lucia, was at Princeton University at the time he shared the
Prize with Theodore W. Schultz (1902-1998), of the University of Chicago "for
their pioneering research into economic development research with particular
consideration of the problems of developing countries." Lewis, who was a
pioneer and leading figure in the research of developing countries, wrote
a number of important works on the subject, including Growth and
Fluctuations, 1870-1913, published in 1978, the year before he won the Nobel
Prize. Cover lightly soiled. Fine condition.
