This First Day Cover honoring Air Mail is signed by the man who worked as President Clinton's Secretary of State and was credited with helping to release US hostages in Iran
First Day Cover signed: "Warren Christopher" in black ink. 6½x3½. First Day Cover honoring United States Air Mail. Postmarked Spokane, Washington, May 7, 1971. 11c stamp affixed. FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. A graduate of Stanford Law School who clerked for Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas (1949-1950), Warren M. Christopher (1925-2011) served as Deputy Attorney General under President Johnson (1967-1969), Deputy Secretary of State under President Carter (1977-1981) and Secretary of State in President Clinton's first term. He is credited with helping to negotiate the release of U.S. hostages in Iran (1981). Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
