WERNER ALBRING. Original Art signed: "W. Albring 97/Self Portrait", 3¾x6 card. In pen. German rocket scientist Werner Albring worked with Werner von Braun's team at Peenemunde on development of ballistic missiles, culminating in the V-2 rockets which fell on London near the end of World War II. Unlike, von Braun, however, Albring and many of his colleagues fell into Soviet hands at the end of the war. After working in Germany under Soviet direction to reconstruct records equipment of the V-2 project, Albring and others were forcibly relocated to the Soviet Union in 1946 to continue work on development of a Soviet missile program. Aerodynamic specialist Albring worked on development of an experimental cruise missile, the G-3, which would have been launched using a ballistic missile as the first stage. Mistrusting the Germans, Soviet authorities phased them out of missile work when a sufficient number of Russians had been trained to replace them. The Germans were allowed to return to Germany after Stalin's death. Fine condition.
