A "hire the handicapped" FDC signed by the Nobel Prize winner (Physiology or Medicine, 1987)
First Day Cover signed: "Werner Arber", 6½x3½. FDC honoring Promote Employment Employ the Handicapped, 4-cent stamp affixed, postmarked New York, New York, August 28, 1960, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Swiss scientist Arber, of the University of Basel, shared the 1987 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Americans Daniel Nathans and Hamilton Smith "for the discovery of restriction enzymes and their application to problems of molecular genetics." These discoveries will aid in preventing or treating malformations, hereditary diseases and cancer. Slightly soiled at edges. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso (no show-through). Fine condition.
