"Mr. Social Security" signs on this 3½x2 card
Signature: "Wilbur J. Cohen/Secretary of Health,/Education, and Welfare/1968-69". 3½x2 white card. Wilbur J. Cohen (1913-1987) was an important player in the design of American social insurance legislation from the New Deal to the Great Society. In the Johnson and Kennedy years, he was a planner at the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, rising to Secretary of the Department (1968-1969). He also played a major role in the design of Medicare, adopted in 1965. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
