Autograph letter signed "W.B. Allison", 1 page, 4½x7, 1 sheet folded. Senate Chamber, dated "Feby 6". Addressed to James S. Lehmaier. In full: "My Dear Sir: Yours recd. Sentiment will do. I will try & adapt my self to it. I am in the habit of staying at Brevoort & think I may go there. Thanks for your suggestion. Very Truly Yours". JAMES S. LEHMAIER was Chairman of the Committee for the New York Republican Club. ALLISON (1829-1908) was a U. S. Representative (1863-1871) and U. S. Senator (1873-1908) from Iowa. He co-sponsored the Bland-Allison Act in 1878, which restored the silver dollar as legal tender, and helped to pass the Hepburn Act, a railroad rate regulation bill, in 1906. Lightly toned and creased. Signature and address are lightly smeared but legible. Ink transference, which touches body but not signature. Pen leaked while writing date but not signature, which is still legible. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
