Index card signed by William M. Jardine, President Calvin Coolidge's Secretary of Agriculture. Accompanied by a 1927 letter of transmittal by Jardine's secretary.
Signature: "William M Jardine". 5x2¾ card. Typed captions: "Wichita, Kansas/Autograph of:/WILLIAM M. JARDINE/U. S. AMBASSADOR TO EGYPT, 1930-33". Lightly toned and creased. Signature touches typed captions. Lightly soiled on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: Typed letter signed "M.S. Eisenhower" as Secretary to Mr. Jardine. 1 page, 6¾x8¾, on Secretary of Agriculture stationery. ¾ inch-diameter embossed Seal of the U. S. Department of Agriculture in top left corner. Sept. 15, 1927. Addressed to Mr. R. Erskine Currie, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Letter acknowledging receipt of Currie's letter on Sept. 14. Eisenhower sent Currie a card signed by Jardine and a photograph (not enclosed). Lightly toned, soiled, stained, creased and rippled. Folded in half and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. Jardine (1879-1955), formerly President of Kansas State University (1918-1925), served as Secretary of Agriculture under President Calvin Coolidge (1925-1929) and was U. S. Minister to Egypt in 1930. He played an integral part in the 1926 formation of the Board of Trade Clearing Corporation (BOTCC) after the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) adopted his suggestions for regular reporting of large trader positions, a business conduct committee and the formation of a centralized clearing house.
