Signature from the 36th US Postmaster General under President Cleveland
Signature: "W.S. Bissell". 4¼x2½. Wilson Shannon Bissell (1847-1903) was an American politician who served as the 36th US Postmaster General from 1893 to 1895. Originally from New London, New York, Bissell was the law partner of future President Grover Cleveland from 1873 to 1882. He entered the Democratic Party as a candidate for Presidential Elector in 1888. He was also a delegate to the 1896 Democratic National Convention. In efforts to persuade him to establish a post office in the township, Apgar's Corners in New Jersey was renamed the village of Bissell in 1893. Fine condition.
