The US Women's Gymnastics Team won the first-ever gold medal for the US in that category at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Dubbed "the Magnificent Seven," they became national heroines, feted in events all over the nation. SHANNON MILLER (b. 1977), the team's top star, had won 5 medals at the Barcelona Olympics of 1992. She was all-around World Champion in 1993 and 1994, and gold medalist at the Pan American Games of 1995. She also won the gold in Balance Beam in Atlanta. The most decorated American gymnast ever, she is undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian cancer in 2011. DOMINIQUE MOCEANU (b. 1981) was a member of the bronze-winning US teams of 1992 and 2000. Known for her daring and difficult tricks early in her career, she later evolved a more elegant style. Moceanu is the only US athlete to have won the all-around gold medal in the Goodwill Games (1998). KERRI STRUG (b. 1977), the youngest member of the US Olympic delegation to the 1992 games, is remembered for her heroics in Atlanta. Despite a seriously injured ankle, she completed an event to clinch the US gold over a fine Russian team, landing a jump and collapsing moments later. She was carried to the medal ceremony by coach Bela Karolyi. AMY CHOW (b. 1978) was the United States' first-ever Asian-American medalist. Besides the team victory, Chow won a silver on the Uneven Bars. Known as "the Trickster" for her difficult moves, Chow has two stunts named for her. AMY BORDEN (b. 1977) was chosen unanimously as captain by her teammates. She and her husband own a Gold Medal Gym in Tempe, Arizona, and she is a TV commentator in gymnastics and cheerleading. JAYCIE PHELPS (b. 1979) won World Championship medals in 1994 (silver) and 1995 (bronze). Pictured but not signing is Dominique Dawes, the seventh of the Magnificent Seven. Fine condition.
