AGNES MARY FRANCES ROBINSON
Robinson handwrote and signed a letter on the back of this French
postcard to Madame E. Davenport Adams in 1881 to give her permission to use her
verses in "your very interesting project".
Autograph letter signed "Mary Robinson". 1 page, 5¼x3½, on the
back of a French post card. Postmarked Aug. 27, 1881, Paris, France.
Addressed to Madame E. Davenport Adams, Nottingham, England. In full:
"Dear Madam You are quite at liberty to use the Dialogue &
Thanksgiving and indeed any of my verses that you care to select for your very
interesting project." Robinson (1857-1944) was a poet and author who
wrote nearly 30 books, including Arden: A Novel (1888), Collected
Poems (1901), La Vie de Emile Duclaux (1907) and Images &
Meditations (1923), as well as an 1883 book on Emily Bronte. Robinson was
known after her first marriage as Agnes-Marie-François Darmesteter and, after
her second, as Agnes Mary Frances Duclaux. Lightly toned, soiled, stained and
creased. Random ink stains. Otherwise in fine condition.
