The composer signs this First Day Cover
First Day Cover signed: "Aaron Copland/1984", 6¼x3½. FDC honoring the 50th Anniversary of Idaho, 3-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Boise, Idaho, July 3, 1940, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. The year he signed this FDC, Copland was honored at many concerts featuring his compositions, including Appalachian Spring (1943-1944), The Third Symphony(1944-1946) and Proclamation for Piano(1973-1982). The following year, the 85-year-old Copland composed Proclamation for Orchestra (1985).  American neoclassic composer Aaron Copland (1900-1990) wrote ballets including Billy the Kid (1938), Rodeo (1942) and Appalachian Spring (awarded the 1945 Pulitzer Prize in Music) and music for films, the best-known being Of Mice and Men (1939), Our Town (1940, released the same year as this cover), The Red Pony (1948) and The Heiress (1949). His major orchestral works include El Salón México (1936) and Fanfare for the Common Man (1943). Copland was committed to reaching a broad audience with distinctively American themes without compromising his work. Lightly creased, touching the "p" of Copland and the date. Slightly soiled, pencil erasures (barely visible head on) at signature area. Overall, fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 21¼x17¼.
