ABBE LANE
Signed still from the 1958 film, Maracaibo, which starred Lane as Elena Holbrook
Printed photograph inscribed and signed: "To Claude/Best Wishes/Abbe Lane". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7½x9¼ (one surface). The film, Cornel Wilde's second directorial outing, also starred Wilde and Jean Wallace (Mrs. Wilde at the time) and featured Joe E. Ross. ©1958, Theodora Productions, Inc. Captioned at lower margin. In the year this film was released, Lane also appeared in foreign films starring Italian comic actor, Totò, and she was seen on television as a mystery guest on What's My Line? and on three airings of Toast of the Town. Born Abigail Francine Lassman Brooklyn in 1932, Abbe Lane was best known as a sexy singer of Latin music, a style she perfected while married (1952-1964) to Xavier Cugat, the Cuban "rumba king". The fiery redhead, who made occasional film and frequent TV guest appearances, once quipped: "Jayne Mansfield may turn the boys into men, but I take it from there." The sultry singer and actress is also an author. Creased at blank margins and corners. Diagonal crease at upper left background, minor surface creases and striations (not evident head on). Tack hole at upper left corner, minor paper chip at lower left corner. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
