BUD ABBOTT (1897-1974) formed with Lou Costello (1906-1959) one of the greatest comedy teams in the history of show business. With Abbott as straight man and Costello as clown, they found popular success from vaudeville and burlesque to radio, Broadway, films and television. Their "Who's on First?" routine is enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Abbott's last role was as his own voice in Hanna-Barbera's Abbott and Costello cartoon series. BETTY ABBOTT, born Jennie Mae Pratt, married Bud in 1918; the two began performing together in 1924. The Abbotts, who reaffirmed their marriage in a Jewish ceremony in 1950, 32 years after their Christian wedding, remained a couple until his death. The Social Maids burlesque company was active in the early decades of the 20th century. Two items.
