Autograph Note signed in pencil: "Abe Lyman", 10½x5½ No place, no
date. To Branen Dyer, Ambassador Hotel. In full: "Del. 8 P.M. c/o
Dyer Dinner. City. Dear champ. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
Your asst. editor." Drummer turned bandleader Abe Lyman (1897-1957) had a
popular dance band from the early 1920s to the late 1940s. His 1922
opening at the Cocoanut Grove, it packed in 1500 guests with a waiting line of
500 outside. Lyman's band had a successful European tour (1929), playing
locations like London's Palladium and Paris' Moulin Rouge. Lyman and his
orchestra were featured in many early talking pictures, and recorded
Merrie Melodies soundtracks. Abe Lyman's Californians played at the
Ambassador Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles. The rest of the note's
meaning is unclear. Creased. Vertical fold at center. Ink notes (unknown hand)
at center. Otherwise, fine condition.
