ABNER SILVER and ALEX GERBER
The songwriters sign their names between their collaborative piece, "My Hometown is a One Horse Town"
Autograph musical quotation signed: "Alex Gerber", "Abner Silver", in blue ink, 9x3½. 4 bars of music from the Silver-Gerber piece, "My Hometown is a One Horse Town". American songwriter, Abner Silver (1899-1966) was a product of the Tin Pan Alley era and usually wrote the music and someone else wrote the lyrics - an exception to this is "A Farewell to Arms" (1932). At the end of the era, he toured with fellow writers in "Songwrites On Parade" (1931-1934). Later, he wrote songs for Elvis Presley movies King Creole - "Lover Doll" (1958), Jailhouse Rock - "Young and Beautiful" (1957), and G.I. Blues - "What's She Really Like" (1960). Tom Jones sang "With These Hands" for the Johnny Depp film Edward Scissorhands (1990) -music by Silver and lyrics by Benny Davis. One of his early songs, "He's So Unusual", was covered by Cindi Lauper on her breakout album "She's So Unusual". ALEX GERBER was a lyricist for several Broadway plays in the 1920's, including The Magic Melody (1919), Poor Little Ritz Girl (1920), and The Rose of Stamboul (1922). Lightly toned. Slightly creased. Fine condition.
