Committee on Finance letterhead, to U. S. Commissioner of Education John R.
Ottina in 1974. He asked Ottina to review an application from a Connecticut
school superintendent.
Typed letter signed "Abe Ribicoff" in blue ink. Pencil
notations at top right corner. Blue ink date stamp near bottom edge. 1 page,
7¾10¼, on U. S. Senate Committee on Finance letterhead. May 16, 1974, date
stamped May 20, 1974. Addressed to the Honorable John R. Ottina,
Commissioner of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare's Office of
Education, Washington, D. C. In full: "Dear Mr. Ottina: Enclosed is a
letter [not enclosed] I have received from the superintendent of schools in
Middletown, Connecticut. I shall appreciate your reviewing the Middletown
application, and I hope it deserves favorable action. Thank you very much for
keeping me advised of the action taken. Sincerely, Abe Ribicoff". JOHN R.
OTTINA (1932-2008) was U. S. Commissioner of Education (1973-1974) and
assistant secretary of administration and management in the Department of
Health, Education and Welfare. ABE RIBICOFF (1910-1998),
Connecticut's Congressman (1949-1953), Governor (1955-1961) and
Senator (1963-1981), was also President John F. Kennedy's Secretary of
Health, Education, and Welfare (1961-1962). Lightly toned and creased.
Staple holes in top left corner. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine
condition.
