Printed card signed in ink: "Abram Newkirk Littlejohn/Bishop/of Long Island/Brooklyn Oct. 26, 1859", in brown ink, 5x2¾ autograph card. Dr. Abram Newkirk Littlejohn (1824-1901) was the first bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. A graduate of Union College, Schenectady, Littlejohn was ordained deacon in 1848 by William Heathcote DeLancey and to the priesthood in 1849 by Thomas Church Brownell. In 1869 he was consecrated Bishop of the Diocese of Long Island. President of Hobart College, Littlejohn served as head of the American Episcopal Churches in Europe from 1874 until his death. Slightly toned and creased. Fine condition.
