Dutch composer and pianist Ad van Dijk (b. 1959) is best known for his musical Cyrano, which earned him a 1994 Tony nomination. Born from a musical family, Dijk received his first piano lessons at age 7, and was hired at a young age to play accompanying piano to small time stage productions. In 1982 he wrote his first stage composition for the musical Tam Tam, and soon after formed a cabaret group with several friends. After the group dissolved, he went back to playing piano for musicals, writing his second musical in 1990. However, it was his success with Cyrano - The Musical that brought him critical acclaim, and helped open several career paths for him. His latest work was the 2003 musical Kunt u mij de weg naar Hamelen vertellen, mijnheer?, which ran until 2005.
