ADA BLANCHE
The English stage star signed this slip of paper in ink
Autograph Sentiment Signed: “Faithfully Yours/ Ada Blanche”. 3½x1½. Ada Blanche
(1862-1953) maintained a stage career for nearly half of a century, first as a principal boy
and then as a comedic older woman. She was the daughter of actress and singer Cicely Nott
and theatre manager Sam Adams. She was just 14 years old when she made her debut at the
Adelphi Theatre. In the late 1880s she became a star in pantomime performances,
appearing alongside Little Tich, Dan Leno, and Marie Lloyd, among many others.
Towards the end of her career she portrayed older women in musicals such as The Arcadians
(1909) and Seven Days (1917). Mounting remnants on verso. Toned. Light smudging.
