Printed photograph signed in ink: 'Adam G. Boving/ 29-III-1929" in black ink. Sepia, 7x10, actual image 4½x6½, one surface. Adam Giede Boving (1869-1957) was a Danish entomologist best known for his work with the larvae of the order Coleoptera, commonly called "beetles". He began his career as an assistant curator of entomology at the Zoological Museum of Copenhagen, before moving to the United States in 1913, where he became a member of the Bureau of Entomology, an offshoot of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In 1939, Boving was named a research associate of the Smithsonian Institution and furthermore went on to publish many books, which he wrote and illustrated, describing the early stages of Coleoptera. Very toned. Small stains throughout. Corners rounded and worn. Ink stamp on verso. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
