Signature from the Massachusetts Militia General and Judge of Common Pleas on a court martial for Major General Simon Elliot on several complaints made by a Brigadier General. Extremely rare and rich in content!
Autograph document signed: "William Donnison Adjt. 3 Reg.", 2 pages (front and verso) 7¾x13¼. Commonwealth of Massachusetts. May 23, 1803. In part: "Major General Simon Elliot of the first Division having laid before the Commander in Chief a complaint by Brigadier General Eliakson Adams of the second Brigade in 2nd division against Timothy Whitney Brigade Major and Inspector of the Brigade of the several offenses set forth in the complaint whereof a copy is hereto annexed [item not included]...". William Donnison (1754-1834) was an American soldier for the Massachusetts Militia for more than 10 years, serving as an Adjutant General (1788-1813) in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. In 1786, Donnison was named aid to Massachusetts Governor Hancock, followed by an appointment as Judge of Common Pleas for 25 years. Toned and soiled throughout. Corners worn and creased, with tear to bottom right corner. Torn along multiple folds of letter. Stains across front and verso. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
