Admiral of the Fleet Sir Algernon Usborne Willis (1889-1976) was a high ranking officer of the British Royal Navy, serving from 1904 to 1950. Beginning in 1941, two years into World War II, Willis was appointed his first Commander-in-Chief position as head of the of the South Atlantic Station. In 1943 he was Commander-in-Chief of Levant, during which he was responsible for Operation Husky. From 1944 to 1946 he was the Second Sea Lord on the Board of Admiralty. Before retiring, he again he served as Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet and Portsmouth. Bowed. Ink smudges at lower right corner. Minor surface creases throughout. Photographer's stamp on verso. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
