The autograph, uniform shoulder boards, Four-Star cap and name tag of an Admiral.
Comprises: (1) Photograph inscribed and signed:
"Washington D.C. July 28 '67/To: Barry Nelson/With kindest personal regard/Arthur W. Radford, Admiral USN (Ret)". B/w, 7½x9¾ overall, image 4½x6¼ (one surface). Lightly creased at blank margins. Fine condition. (2) ALS: "Mrs. Arthur W. Radford", 1p, 5x5¼. No place, 1975 May 7. To Ken. In full: "Here is a set of my husbands (sic) Shoulder Boards and one of his hats for your collection." Creased. (3) Pair of Radford's embroidered shoulder boards, each 5¼x2¼. Fine condition. (4) Radford's black relief cap with four silver stars and the U.S. Navy emblem pinned on, 11¾ inches long when flattened. Fine condition. (5) Photocopied 1957 biography of Radford, 5p, 8½x11, separate sheets, distributed by the Internal Relations Division of the Navy Office of Information. Stapled at upper left corner. Stray blank marks from photocopying on all pages, but all text is legible. (6) Name tag, 3x1. White plastic with "wood-grain" finish, engraved: "ADMIRAL/ARTHUR W. RADFORD" in white letters. Fine condition. Arthur W. Radford (1896-1973) served as Commander of Carrier Division Eleven (July to December 1943) and Carrier Division Six, U.S. Pacific Fleet (November 1944 to August 1945). He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star and Companion of the Order of the Bath by Great Britain. Radford was promoted to Rear Admiral (temporary) on July 21, 1943 (made permanent on August 7, 1947), Vice Admiral (temporary) on May 25, 1946 and Four-Star Admiral on April 7, 1949. From 1953-1957, he served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. MRS. ARTHUR W. RADFORD, Mariam J. Radford (1895-1997), is buried next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery. Seven items.
