ADMIRAL CHARLES W. BERESFORD
British Admiral Charles W. Beresford wrote this letter in 1902 to
accept a dinner invitation.
Autograph letter signed "Charles Beresford". Pencil notations
at top left corner. 2 pages, 4½x6¾, 1 sheet folded, front and verso. Written
at "247. 5th Avenue", Sept. 20. 1902. In part: "My dear Mr Hesper
I shall be delighted to accept your kind invitation to dinner at the
Metropolitan Club... I remember well a very cheery dinner we had together before.
Yours very sincerely". Commander of the British Mediterranean fleet
(1905-1907) and of the Channel Fleet (1907-1909), 1st Lord
Beresford (1846-1919) was a Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty from
1886 to 1888. He rose to Admiral in 1906. Beresford was a Conservative
Member of Parliament for 20 total years between 1874 to 1916. Lightly toned,
soiled, stained and creased. Handwriting has bled lightly in places but is
legible. Random ink stains, which touch handwriting but not signature. Mounting
remnants on back of letter. Light tear at bottom of spine of letter. Folded once
and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
