Annotated Pamphlet Double Signed: “Ernest McNeill Eller” and “Ernest” in blue ink on the front cover. Nine pages. Title: “Soviet Bid for the Sea”. This is a reprinted article from the United States Naval Institute Proceedings, Vol. 81, No. 6. Originally printed in June 1955. Handwritten text in full: “To William W. Stanhope/ with best wishes…unhappily this forecast too accurately as may be seen from my recent book The Soviet Sea Challenge and events of today”. Rear Admiral Ernest McNeill Eller (1903-1992) served in WWII and the Korean War before becoming the Director of Naval History from 1956 to 1970. He also published numerous books and articles about naval warfare, United States strategy, and foreign policy on the seas. From 1932 to 1935, the officer taught English and History at the United States Naval Academy. Lightly toned. Slight creasing along spine. Otherwise, fine condition.
