ANS: "John Rodgers/Rear Admiral U.S.N.", 3½x2¼ card. In full: "I am happy to oblige you so easily." John Rodgers (1812-1882), with the North Pacific Exploring and Surveying Expedition (1852-1856), was engaged in the attack on Fort Sumter in 1863 and later captured the Confederate ironclad Atlanta. From 1871-1872, Rear Admiral Rodgers commanded the Asiatic squadron. Mounting remnant on verso lightly shows through. Tape stains touch 2 letters of title. Overall, fine condition.
