In part: "I send you some enclosures, which will put you in touch with the actual facts concerning the proposed expedition in the event that any of those who heard me speak in Waterbury may feel inclined to take a tangible interest in the work. I am also sending you a little souvenir of the Far North in the shape of a blue fox skin, which I will ask you to accept with my compliments...." Enclosures not included. Peary began his Arctic exploration with voyages to Greenland in 1886 and 1891-1892. He returned to Greenland in 1893-1895, 1896 and 1897. Peary then surveyed northern routes in 1898-1902 and 1905-1906. He set out on "the proposed expedition" he mentions in July 1908. On April 6, 1909, he became the first to reach the North Pole. Folds, vertical fold touches the "rt" in Robert. Lightly creased. Overall, fine condition.
