Signed vintage photograph of the silent film star, known for The Sheik (6x8½). Extremely rare!
Photograph signed: "Sincerely/Agnes Ayres", in black ink. Sepia, 6x8½. Silent film star Agnes Ayres (1898-1940) became famous for her role as Lady Diana Mayo in The Sheik and its sequel The Son of the Sheik. Born in Carbondale, Illinois, Ayres was discovered while on tour at Essanay's Chicago Studios. She made her film debut in 1914 in The Masked Wrestler, and went on to appear in over 90 films, including Eve's Love Letters (1927) and Forbidden Fruit (1921). She made her final appearance in Morning, Judge before retiring in 1937. In her retirement, however, Ayres fell into a deep depression and was eventually committed to a sanatorium. She died at the age of 42 from a cerebral hemorrhage. Lightly toned, corners creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
