Inscribed photograph signed: "For Ray/[untranslated]/Agnes Baltsa", in black felt tip, 8x10, B/w. Agnes Baltsa (b. 1944) is a popular mezzo-soprano from Lefkada, Greece. At the age of six she began playing the piano and in 1958 she moved to Athens to focus on vocal training. After graduating from the Greek National Conservatoire, she relocated to Munich in 1965 to study. In 1968 the mezzo-soprano made her operatic debut as Cheubino in The Marriage of Figaro at the Frankfurt Opera, and then in 1970 she appeared as Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier at the Vienna State Opera. She is best remembered for her performance in Carmen by Georges Bizet. She has also performed works by Mozart, Rossini, Mascagni, Verdi, Bellini and Donizetti. In 1992, she starred in the Austrian film Duett as an opera singer. Fine condition.
