Ink signature of the essayist on a thin strip of paper
Signature: "Agnes Repplier", 4¼x1½. Agnes Repplier
(1855-1950) was a prolific American essayist, with works appearing frequently in
leading journals such as the Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic, Harper's
and Life. Some of her titles include "Books and Men" (1888), "The Fireside
Sphinx" (1901), "In Pursuit of Laughter" (1936) and the autobiographical "Eight
Decades" (1937). She also wrote biographic sketches of prominent
Catholics, including explorer/missionaries Jacques Marquette and Junipero
Serra. Paper affixed on verso from previous matting. A ¼ and a 1/8 inch tear at
top right and 1/8 inch tear at top middle (none affecting signature). Otherwise,
fine condition.
