Autograph Letter signed: "Aimee", 1 page, 6¼x4½. No place, but with email address, 2002 May 13. On personal letterhead to "Dear Barnaby" [Conrad]. In full: "I hope to see you & Mary at the Hemingway finale on May 28. And I hope you'll help us in the coming year to establish a long overdue PEN USA chapter in Santa Barbara! We're turning into quite a glorious outfit. Do join us! Best -" Aimee Liu (b. 1953) wrote Solitaire, an account of her struggle with anorexia, in 1979. Her Gaining: the Truth About Life After Eating Disorder (2007), is a sequel, bolstered by much research. Her other works include Cloud Mountain (1997), the story of her American grandmother and Chinese revolutionary grandfather; and the novels Face (1994) and Flash House (2003). When she wrote this letter in 2002, Liu was President of the literary organization PEN USA. Barnaby Conrad, himself a prolific author, co-founded with his wife Mary the Santa Barbara Writers Workshop in 1973, and ran it for over three decades. Fine condition.
