Typed letter signed: "Geoffrey Tuttle" in purple felt. 8¼x11¾. Surrey, England, April 25, 1972, partially handwritten and typed on letterhead of the British Aircraft Corporation Limited to "My dear Mr. Stanhope." In full: "Many thanks for your letter of 1st April. I am pleased to send you an autographed photograph of myself [not included], although it is not a very good one. I appreciate the honour of being associated with the distinguished people you mention in your letter. May I wish you all the best, and assure you that inspite of what other people say, the Concorde is doing extremely well. Yrs sincerely". Air Marshal Sir Geoffrey William Tuttle (1906-1989) is a former senior Royal Air Force officer who became Deputy Chief of the Air Staff. Tuttle joined the Royal Air Force in 1925. He served in World War II as Commander of the Photographic Reconnaissance Unit before being appointed Senior Air Staff Officer at Mediterranean Allied Coastal Air Force Headquarters and then Air Officer Commanding AHQ Greece. After the War he became Director of Operational Requirements at the Air Ministry and then Assistant Chief of the Air Staff in 1951, Air Officer Commanding No. 19 Group in 1954 and Deputy Chief of the Air Staff in 1956 before retiring in 1959. After his retirement he became General Manager at Vickers-Armstrongs (Aviation) Limited. Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Creased at top edge. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
