page, 8½x11. Penned at bottom left of a handwritten letter from Richard E.
Andrews of Whitestone, New York requesting his autograph. Johnson
(1915-2001, born in Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire, England) was a Royal
Air Force pilot in Britain. Originally rejected from the Air Force due to a
rugby injury, he became the top scoring British ace of World War II, with 38
confirmed Luftwaffe kills. His first victory was on June 26, 1941, when he
shot down a Messerschmitt Bf 109 over France. He flew Spitfires in the Battle of
Britain, escorted bombers over Germany, with a total of over 1,000 missions
during the war, and finished his combat service in the Korean War. He was
later promoted to Air Vice Marshall. Fine condition.
