Inscribed autograph musical quotation signed: "To my good friend Lionel A. Aucoir Sincerely Al Dexter", in blue ink, 3¾x9. Several bars from his popular tune "Pistol Packin' Mama" have been penned in blue ink. Country musician Al Dexter (1905-1984) began his career in music in the 1930's, helping to popularize the style of music dubbed 'honky tonk'. His recording debut in 1936 with ARC records was his "Honky Tonk Blues", but he would not achieve popular fame until 1943 with "Pistol Packin' Mama". The song was used for the marching chorus for the New York Yankees and eventually had a spin off film of the same name, earning Dexter about $250,000 in royalties. Other hits from Dexter include "Guitar Polka", "So Long Pal", "Triflin Gal", and "Too Late to Worry". Dexter became the first country singer to perform on Broadway, and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971 for his contributions to country music. Toned. Fine condition.
