Al Hirschfeld signs a first day cover honoring Bergen and

First Day Cover signed: "Hirschfeld", 5¾x4. First Day Cover
honoring Bergen and McCarthy, 29-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Hollywood,
California, 1991 August 29, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Al Hirschfeld (1903-2003)
was a renowned cartoonist, author and theatrical caricaturist with "The New
York Times" from 1929. From 1945 on, Hirschfeld began incorporating the name
of his daughter, Nina, in his drawings. The addition became so popular with his
audience that after 1956 he began adding a numeral after his signature to
signify how many "NINAs" he had hidden in the work. Hirschfeld died on January
20, 2003 at the age of 99. Fine condition.
