Original Art signed: "Al Banx/Worcester", 5½x3½. His original ink drawing of a shabbily dressed man trudging toward the "Poor House," from whose window a resident is saying, "Here comes another cartoonist." Al Banx was the professional name of J. Albert Banks (1890-1967), veteran cartoonist for the Worcester Daily Telegram. His cartoons, signed "Al Banx", commented humorously on everything from military life to local sports. He created "Poly Tech," the mascot logo of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. A Marine Corps veteran of World War I, he sent cartoons to central Massachusetts servicemen in World War II, keeping them posted on events back home. An exhibition room at the Worcester Public Library is dedicated to him. Toned. Adhesive residue on verso. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
