ALAIN DELON
Black and white publicity photograph of Alain Delon in a sweater.
Photograph signed: "Alain Delon". B/w, 8x10. Alain Delon, born in Sceaux, Siene (now Hauts-de-Seine), France, is a French actor with almost 90 movies and TV shows to his credit. Delon came from a broken family and had a rocky childhood. He joined the French Marines when he was 17 and served as a parachutist in Indo-China, now Vietnam. He visited the 1957 Cannes Film Festival after being discharged, and his delicate good looks won him a number of movie offers. He made his film premiere in Quand la femme s'en mêle (1957) and soon had a lead role in Christine (1958), in which he appeared with future wife Romy Schneider. Delon went on to become one of the most prominent postwar actors in France, with high-profile roles in L'Eclisse (1962), Ill Gattopardo (1963), Melodie En Sous-Sol (1965), the cult classic Le Samourai (1967), Monsieur Klein (1976), Comme Un Boomerang and Le Gang (1977), Un Amour de Swann and Notre Historie (1984), Parole de Flic (1985) and Nouvelle Vogue (1990). Hollywood success eluded him, despite appearances in several American movies like Once a Thief (1965) and Airport '79: Concorde (1979). Delon also found himself at the center of a potentially career-ending scandal in 1969, when his bodyguard was found shot dead and dumped in a garbage dump. But Delon spun it to his advantage and got roles in four gangsters' movies out of it, all of them huge European hits. Fine condition.
