ALAIN DELON
The Cesar Award winning French actor is shown from the shoulders up in this 6¼x7½ photograph.
Photograph signed: "Alain Delon" in silver felt tip, Color 6¼x7½. French film star Alain Delon (b. 1935) joined the French Marines when he was 17 and served as a parachutist in Indo-China. He visited the 1957 Cannes Film Festival after being discharged, and his delicate good looks won him a number of movie offers. He made his film premiere in 1957, and soon had a lead role in Christine (1958). Delon went on to become one of the most prominent postwar actors in France, appearing in films of the famed auteur directors like Godard, Antonioni and Malle, and opposite famed actresses like Brigitte Bardot and Romy Schneider (for a time his fiancé). Delon also found himself at the center of a potentially career-ending scandal in 1969, when his bodyguard was found shot dead and dumped in a garbage dump. But Delon spun it to his advantage and got roles in four gangster movies out of it, all of them huge European hits. Delon won France's Cesar Award as Best Actor for Notre Histoire (1984). Hollywood success eluded him, despite appearances in several American movies like Once a Thief (1965) and Airport '79: Concorde (1979). Semi-retired from films since 1997, Delon, now a Swiss citizen, markets a variety of products - from perfumes to sunglasses - under his own name. Fine condition.
