ALAN DINEHART
Fox studio photo, inscribed in person to collector Saul
Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/Alan Dinehart". B/w,
8x10. Captioned in lower margin. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature:
June 20, 1940. Alan Dinehart (1889-1944) was a frequent B-movie
villain. When he wasn't actually guilty of wrongdoing, he was cast as a
likely suspect or as an unlamented victim. (Examples include Bureau of
Missing Persons (1933), Charlie Chan at the Racetrack (1935) and
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938). Dinehart also had a distinguished
stage career, acting, directing or stage managing nearly 30 Broadway plays
between 1918 and 1941. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business
man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends
with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves,
Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in
fountain pen. Corners lightly creased and worn. Signature lightly smeared
but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
