Roswell, N. Mex., October 5, 1964, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Alan Dressler, a
noted space astronomer, is best known for his studies of the large-scale
structure of the universe. In addition to mapping the distribution of dark
matter by tracing the velocities of galaxies that are affected by its presence,
Dressler is also the principal investigator for the Inamori Magellan Areal
Camera and Spectrograph, a sensitive multi-object spectrograph and camera
that allows hundreds of galaxies to be seen at once due to its very wide field.
A member of the National Academy of Sciences, he was awarded NASA's Public
Service Medal in 1999. Lightly creased. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso,
which is lightly soiled. Fine condition.
